Profiles of Volunteers

Recommended Profiles of Volunteers to Invite to support the work of the Prince Edward County Residents Association (PECRA):

1. Legal and Governance

  • A municipal or administrative lawyer familiar with the Municipal Act, 2001 and conflict-of-interest laws.
  • A retired judge or justice of the peace (if accessible).
  • Example: A partner from a law firm.

2. Planning and Development

  • A former or current municipal planner or architect with experience in PEC’s Official Plan.
  • An expert in sustainable land use or heritage conservation.
  • Example: Someone previously involved in the planning approvals process for PEC.

3. Finance and Public Budgeting

  • A CPA or municipal finance expert who can review and interpret county financials and tenders.
  • Someone with experience in capital budgeting or procurement.
  • Example: A retired CFO or finance director of a public sector organization.

4. Community Advocates

  • Leaders from other residents’ associations (e.g., Milford, Bloomfield).
  • Someone active in housing affordability, seniors’ issues, or environmental stewardship.
  • Example: A founding member of Save Picton Bay or the PEC Field Naturalists.

5. Communications and Outreach

  • A journalist, public relations expert, or digital strategist.
  • Someone with experience building social media presence and community engagement.
  • Example: A former editor or contributor to the Picton Gazette or Wellington Times.

6. Youth and Emerging Leaders

  • Individuals under 40 with leadership potential.
  • Students or alumni of local leadership programs (e.g., Loyalist College).
  • Example: A young entrepreneur or active member of the Wellington Rotary Club.

7. Former Municipal Leaders

  • A respected former councillor or mayor who is not currently in office but still engaged.
  • Someone with a track record of fair, evidence-based decision-making.
