The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is offering several free, virtual candidate training workshops in April 2026 to prepare prospective candidates for the October 2026 municipal elections.

Through the Healthy Democracy Solutions Bank, AMO has developed a Candidate Resource Catalogue for candidates running for municipal office. Resources range from helping you make the decision to run or run again, to building your team, crafting your message, and getting out the vote.
Key April 2026 Workshop Dates & Topics:
- April 8, 2026 (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM): Running for Municipal Office – Everything You Need to Know as an Underrepresented Candidate
- Focus: Specifically for underrepresented communities, but open to all, this 90-minute workshop covers campaign strategies, messaging, branding, and community engagement.
- Facilitators: Former municipal councillors Steve Anderson and Jasvinder Sandhu.
- April 7, 2026 (6:30 PM): Healthy Democracy Series – Session 2: Managing Conflict and Building Relationships
- Focus: Part of the “Stronger Leaders, Stronger Communities” series, this session is designed for community members/first-time candidates.
- April 15, 2026 (6:30 PM – 8:00 PM): Youth Information Session
- Focus: Specifically for youth (18+) considering a run for municipal office, focusing on building confidence and understanding the role.
- April 23, 2026 (6:30 PM): Healthy Democracy Series – Session 3: Prioritizing Mental Health and Wellbeing (Stream 1 – Elected Officials)
- Focus: Designed for current elected officials preparing for re-election in 2026.
- April 28, 2026 (6:30 PM): Healthy Democracy Series – Session 3: Prioritizing Mental Health and Wellbeing (Stream 2 – First-time Candidates)
- Focus: For community members aiming to build confidence and resilience. Association of Municipalities of Ontario +8
Registration Information:
All workshops are free but require registration. Participants can register through the AMO website. These sessions are designed as “starter kits” to prepare individuals for the nomination period, which begins on May 1, 2026.
